So the weather around here has been crazily warm for this time of year. It made me want to do a fresh, springy look. I have just fallen in love with the MAC eyeshadow Sweet Lust. It's shimmery with some micro-glitter in it, but the glitter isn't all "oh look at me I have glitter all over my face," it's much more subtle. I've been using this eyeshadow a lot lately as a default shade when I'm not sure what I want to do or am in a hurry.
A closer look:
On the eye (please ignore the mascara boo-boo above my crease, haha):
As you can also tell from these pics, my allergies are kickin my butt! My eyes have been itchy and watery for a couple of weeks now, boo!
When people first see this shade in my gloss bag, they always wonder why I want such a bright color gloss. But as you can see, it doesn't apply as dark or bright as it looks. It gives the lips just a hint of pink. Love love love it.
I really like to do this eye around the holidays because it's still neutral, but at the same time still adds a little punch and shimmer. I start off using the Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion on my entire lid, then using my Sephora Eyeshadow Brush, blend a light layer of Shiseido's Shimmershell from lash line to crease. Then I *barely* run the brush over MAC Shadow in Amber Lights. You have to be careful with this color because it is very highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way [unless you are going for a bolder look]. I lightly blend the gold from lash line to crease, adding layers until I have the amount of gold I want. Next, I take the Sephora Flat Eyeliner Brush, run it through the gold, and line my lower lash line. I finish up by lining my upper lid with TheBalm Pick-Up Liner in Don Juan, smudge it with a smudge brush, and coat my lashes with Sephora's Atomic Volume Mascara.
I took the pictures in two different lights, trying to see which looked best. Well, I couldn't decide, lol.
The flash makes them appear darker than they do in real life.
Can I just say I'm in love with this duo? I'm in love with it! They are so easily blendable, go on so smoothly [even over the UD primer] and stay put all day! They come in great pairs and I seriously want to own all of them. When you use them dry, the colors come off pretty sheer [with this duo at least, not sure about the others yet], but when used wet it is much bolder. I would also recommend these to someone who is just starting off learning to or experimenting with blending. I give these a 5 out of 5!
How I used it:
Weapons:
*Urban Decay Ammo Palette
*Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara
*Clinique Lash Building Primer
*Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion
*MAC Skinfinish in Lightscapade
*Benefit Georgia Peach
*Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in Yeyo
*Tarte Eyeshadow Duo in Kamalame Cay
*Benefit Mr. Frosty
I started off by applying the UD primer over my entire lid and lightly dabbing the Mr. Frosty over my brow bone. Next I used my eyeshadow brush to apply the UD Yeyo over my entire lid from lash line to crease. Using a crease brush, I applied the green from the palette starting in the middle of my eye and blending outward. Then I ran the crease brush over my entire crease, starting from my inner corner to the outer corner. I dusted off the crease brush[not on hands unless they are washed! I use a makeup cloth] and ran it through the blue color, which I then deposited on the outer corner of my eye. I then also ran the blue color on my bottom lash line, the outer 3/4ths. Did that make sense? I used my smudge brush and the color Oil Slick from the UD Palette to line the top of my eyes. A coat of lash building primer and two coats of mascara and I was finished with the eye. Since this is sort of a summery look, I went with Georgia Peach for a blush and applied the Lightscapade in a 'C' shape around the outer corner of my eyes and underneath. :)
I have had the MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque for a while, but I'm just now getting to the review [lazy I know!]
I really like the paint pots. When I don't use the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it blends on my eye really easily. But it does start to cake up in the crease after a while [though not as quickly as most creamy shadows]. However, when I use the UD Primer, this stays put all day, no creasing at all. These are really fun to mix and match or just use as a simple base. The Rubenesque is a pinky-golden hue, it looks more pink in the pot but has a more golden finish on the eye. Because of the creasing without the primer, I'm going to give this a 4 out of 5.
How to get the look:
Weapons:
*Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion
*Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara
*Clinique Lash Building Primer
*Clinique Fresh Bloom Allover Colour in Peony
*MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque
*Sephora Eyeliner in Black #160
*Benefit Mr. Frosty
First I applied the UD Primer Potion over my entire lid. Then I highlighted my brow bone with the Mr. Frosty. I swirled my finger around once in the paint pot, then patted my finger all over my lid, starting at the outer corner of my lid and working my way inward. This deposits more of the color at the outer corner, giving depth to the eye. Usually I line my eyes with a smudge brush and the UD Eyeshadow in Oil Slick, but after trying that the first time I wore this I discovered it's not such a good idea. The powder doesn't lay evenly on this shadow and it catches the brush, making an uneven line. So instead I used my Sephora eyeliner to make a very thin line along my top lash line. A coat of Clinique Lash Primer and two coats of the Sephora Mascara and viola! Quick and easy! :) And with this eyeshadow I like to use the Clinique Peony as it compliments the golden tone of the Rubenesque.
I haven't used this palette in a while, so I broke it out again the other day and really liked the neutral eye I ended up with!
Weapons used:
*Too Faced Quickie Chronicle in "The Fabulous Flirt"
*Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara
*Clinique Lash Primer
*Urban Decay's Eye Primer Potion
*Benefit's Mr. Frosty
*Mac Mineralized Skinfinish in Lightscapade
First I applied the Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion over my entire lid, from lash line to crease. Then I lightly applied the Mr. Frosty on my brow bone. Using the Sephora Professional Eyeshadow Brush, I dusted the light beige from the palette all over my lid. Next, I took the Sephora Professional Crease Brush and dusted the pink on the outter corners of my eyes. I went back and forth with the brushes, blending both of the colors to my liking. Then I took the Sephora Professional Smudge brush and lined my upper lash line and the outter corner of my lower lash line with the dark brown. I wish you could see it better in the pictures, but the flash washed the color out. I really liked lining my eyes with this color because it isn't such a harsh, definite line, but it still provide definition. I finished by curling my lashes and applying the Clinique Primer and then two coats of the Sephora mascara.
I used the blush in the palette to round out the look, but these blushes are very matte. I don't want it to be so obvious I'm wearing blush, so I applied a light coat of the MAC Skinfinish over the blush, and it definitely made it look more natural.
